Hide Your Pot of Gold—The St. Paddy’s Day Weekend Guide

Brace yourselves, cause this weekend you’re about to be hit with an onslaught of green beer specials and see the phrase “Get Lucky” on so. Many. T-shirts.

The most useful thing I learned this week is that the Irish hate seeing “St. Patty’s” written on things, so let’s call it St. Paddy’s and raise a pint to getting along. And don’t forget to swing by San Francisco City Hall, which is going green and lighting up like the Emerald Isle.

The pot of gold is actually a hangover cure

When: Saturday, March 17th, all day and 5-9 PM via Caviar in the East Bay

Where: 4505 Burgers & BBQ

Why: 4505, the BBQ Gods of San Francisco, have worked some serious leprechaun magic to bring you this masterfully delectable, delightfully on-theme sandwich: a special Reuben sandwich with smoked pastrami, gruyere, sauerkraut and secret sauce. But that’s not all: it comes on toasted Wise Sons rye and you can order it on Caviar in the East Bay from 5-9 PM for delivery. If you’re in the neighborhood, you can stumble in anytime Saturday and nosh on this sando for under $12. // 705 Divisadero St, NoPa

Guinness caramel pretzel ice cream—YOU’RE WELCOME, WORLD

When: Saturday, June 17th, 12 P.M. – 5 P.M.

Where: Andytown Coffee Roasters

Why: In the best collab since Queen and David Bowie, Andytown has teamed up with Churn Urban Creamery to produce an epic ice cream pop up. Andytown’s pastry chef will also be delivering fresh Irish pastries at noon…and better still, there will be sausage rolls. Be there or be square at noon. // 3016 Taraval St, Sunset

Instagram a Shamrock Martini

When: Saturday, March 17th

Where: Blue Mermaid Restaurant and Bar

Why: Treat yourself to a tipsy stroll by Fisherman’s Wharf, then head into the Argonaut Hotel’s signature restaurant for a hearty meal and a Shamrock Martini (which is just as scrumptiously basic as it sounds). At the hotel restaurant, Blue Mermaid Restaurant & Bar, the chef will be preparing a corn beef and cabbage meal, priced at $22 and served with roasted red potatoes. So you can refuel and get your drink on again with a creme de menthe, creme de cacao, and cream-and-sprinkles-laden drink. Hashtag, #shamrockmartini. Hashtag, #gotlucky. // 471 Jefferson St, North Beach

It’s kind of a big deal

When: Saturday, March 17th, 10 A.M. – 5 P.M.

Where: Civic Center Plaza, San Francisco

Why: San Francisco’s 167th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival is the West Coast’s biggest Irish event, so you might not want to sleep through this one. The parade starts at 11:30 at 2nd and Market. We’re forecasting live Irish music till the late afternoon, arts and crafts exhibitors, food and beverage concessions, children’s rides and inflatables, and non-profit booths representing the Irish community. // 355 McAllister St, Tenderloin
