Can You Smell It In The Air? It’s The Friday The 13th Weekend Guide

We think any weekend that kicks off with a Friday the 13th is bound to be exciting.

Unless you’re scrambling to finish your taxes, in which case, we remind you that crying about how screwed you are while rocking back and forth in your shower works wonders. No, just kidding, it doesn’t, but here’s a bunch of stuff to do this weekend that’s more fun than that.

Break out that captain’s hat you wore for a college Halloween party that one time

When: Saturday, April 14th, 1 P.M. – 4 P.M.

Where: Cal Sailing Club

Why: You can score a free sailboat ride with the Cal Sailing Club, which means you can scream “Batten down the hatches!” unironically. This is a small sailing club and sailing is first-come first served, so hedge your bets on arriving early for a good experience. The club is also active in windsurfing, so you can get a tour of their windsurfing equipment and try out a sail on the club’s on-land simulator. You’ll get great views of UC Berkeley, the Bay Bridge, San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Bring your water shoes. // 124 University Ave, Berkeley, learn more about the club here.

Things we love about life on this planet: cherry blossoms

When: April 14-15th, 11 A.M. – 5 P.M.

Where: Japantown, San Francisco

Why: Did you know that there are only three remaining Japantowns in the United States? That means we’re super lucky to have one, and the best way to take advantage (besides loads of great sushi and Uji Time Dessert) is to head out to this weekend’s Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival. It’s said to be the second largest festival outside of Washington, D.C. The festival will be held on Post Street between Laguna and Fillmore Streets. The big finale, the parade, will take place on Sunday at 1 P.M. The festival draws a crowd of more than 200,000 people annually.

Disco’s not dead, and neither is roller blading

When: Every Saturday, 2 P.M. – 6 P.M.

Where: Dolores Park Multiuse Court near Church & 18th

Why: While this happens every Saturday, we wanted to shout it to the world now that spring weather means a friendly roller skating season. Not only do they welcome skaters and bladers of all abilities, they’re totes down to show you a thing or two. And they provide the tunes. We’re predicting good times all around. // This event is weather permitting. Check their Facebook page for updates.
