The Birth of a Witch

The Quill of Acceptance and Book of Admittance were mentioned in Pottermore. There was supposedly a Quill, which had been taken from an Augurey. It was said to magically levitate out of the inkpot and inscribe on the Book the names of children who exhibited signs of magic in them. This showed a possibility that Hermione must have shown certain magical abilities at one point in time that had been noticed by the Quill and Book.

She received a surprise in the summer of 1991 when she came to know about her identity and got accepted in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. She had a somewhat similar childhood to Harry where they were both unaware of their magical genes till they got accepted in Hogwarts.

Before starting her first year in September she read all the set spell books and could even perform a few of those spells. As she was not a pure-blood or had no prior knowledge regarding magic, she was kind of a lame bloomer compared to other kids belonging to pure-blood families.

This might have been one of the chief reasons for her interest in studying and learning different books. Witchcraft demanded practice and effort besides talent. She relied more on her efforts than her blood. Her abilities grew stronger than her classmates primarily due to her strong dedication and motivation towards knowledge and wisdom.

She appreciated magic so much that she did not keep it for herself. From helping her friends to fighting powerful wizards, she always did more than she had to.

Mudblood Theory

Mudblood was slang or a derogatory term (from the Harry Potter series) used in the wizard community for referring to those having muggle parents or being non-pure blood. Voldemort was one such wizard who wanted to eradicate all mudbloods. They believed mudbloods were not worthy of magic. Hermione was called a mudblood due to her muggle parents.

Hermione was the cleverest witch in her generation. Even great wizards like Albus Dumbledore, Hagrid, and Remus Lupin couldn’t help but praise her. She had not only mastered advanced spells but was also good at non-verbal spells since her first year, which was not exactly an easy feat.

Squibs and Muggles

Children born in wizarding families without any magical abilities were known as squibs. Such cases were very rare, and squibs were the opposite of witches and wizards born in muggle families. Muggle-born witches and wizards could be born off squibs as well. In case the magic skipped a generation, witches and wizards were born as descendants. In this manner, muggles usually had children born with magic in them.

Squibs could be aware of the wizarding world but they were unable to practice any magic themselves. They had the gift of vision that allowed them to see magic, unlike muggles. Argus Filch was a squib. They were treated with contempt in the wizardly world, where the Ministry refused to keep records of their births and encouraged them to live among muggles.
