Does Amazon Give Out Bonuses?

Here is an article to know “Does Amazon Give Out Bonuses?”. Amazon is a multinational corporation that has headquarters in Seattle, United States. It is one of the most popular e-commerce sites worldwide today. It started in 1994 as a book store by founder Jeff Bezos and has now expanded into all sorts of diverse fields.

 It is one of the ‘’Big Five’’ companies in the American IT industry, and its employees are the topmost people in all fields. Amazon is known for being efficient, inexpensive, and it stocks everything. Everything you could ever want is available at Amazon.

One thing it doesn’t have a good reputation for, however, is the way it treats its employees. Amazon workers are known to be overworked, underpaid, and have unpleasant working conditions. But what about its benefits and payments? Does Amazon Give Out Bonuses?

Does Amazon Give Out Bonuses?

Paid Bonuses at Amazon

Depending on the job they do, workers at Amazon are given different bonuses. All employees get some kind of bonus, however small. Here are a few situations where employees get bonuses;

  • Bonuses might be given when new employees join
  • Extremely hard-working employees could get performance-based bonuses
  • For the holiday season
  • If the employee is quitting/retiring

Joining Bonuses

Both in Canada and the United States, Amazon hires employees with a signing bonus. Not long ago, the company announced that it would give new employees in the fulfillment and logistics network a bonus of $1,100 upon joining the company’s numbers. However, these bonuses could be deducted from employee benefits by Amazon at any time, so don’t take it for granted.

Performance Bonuses

Not every division or employee in Amazon will be eligible for this bonus, but a lot of them will be. For those workers that the company thinks are very hardworking and deserve some incentive to keep working like this, they add an extra four percent to their salary each month. On average, this could add up to around $2,600 a year. Also, if the employee works overtime, they sometimes hand out overtime bonuses, and these could go up to $500.

Holiday Bonuses

The holiday bonus at Amazon does not include every single holiday, unfortunately. The month of December is when holiday bonuses are given to every employee. This is the season to be merry, for each employee will receive a standard bonus. Full-time employees will get a bonus of $300, whereas part-time employees will get $150 for their bonus. Those who are working during the holiday season will get their bonus. Those who have applied for time off during this season may or may not receive their bonus. Again, this depends on a lot of factors such as the location of the store, and the individual jobs employees have.

Quitting/Retirement bonus

When an employee at Amazon decides to put down their papers, they could receive a bonus from the company. This bonus will be on the agreement that the employee will not work at any Amazon branch again. The amount of the bonus will not be standard for everyone, it is different depending on how long the employee has worked at Amazon. A rough estimate for this amount will be anywhere from $2000 to $5000. So, if the employee is sure they would never work at Amazon again, this bonus is a great thing for them to accept.

Other Benefits

These four are the only situations where Amazon gives its employees bonuses. Apart from this, Amazon employees do get a variety of benefits. Unfortunately, these might come at the cost of peeing in a bottle. Some of these include;

  • Healthcare benefits, such as medical and dental insurance, or for prescription drugs
  • Getting a healthcare savings account, which will work with the employee’s contribution
  • Adoption assistance for adoption expenses
  • Maternity and paternity leave
  • 401k savings plan
  • Financial counseling
  • Paid time off, if the employee has a valid reason
  • Vacation days and personal time days off
  • Sick leaves, but these will be unpaid
  • Employee discounts in places like Amazon Health Centres

Some of these benefits could be extended to family members if they are dependents of the employee. It should be noted that all these benefits vary based on a variety of factors, such as individual job titles, working hours, location of the place of employment, and if it is a full-time or part-time job.

Conclusion

Amazon does give out bonuses to their employees, but in select situations only. These are a lot less than what other companies would offer, in terms of the amount and frequency of the bonuses. However, working conditions also depend on where you are in the hierarchy. Of course, the lower you go, the harder it is and the lesser you get paid. Depending on where you work, some of these factors might be different as these are only general guidelines. If you are an employee or a potential employee, you should look up the rules of your Amazon branch. We hope this article was helpful to you.
