Royal Jordanian allows the pets to travel with passengers in the economy cabin and also has checked baggage. A prior approval from Royal Jordanian systems and procedures. The reservation to carry the pet should be made atleast two days prior to the departure and the pet must be vaccinated according to the standards given by the countries of departure. All the vaccination certificates must be submitted on time to the airlines. The application fees has to be paid prior to the day of departure. 

Pets such as dogs and cats can be accepted along with the passengers subjected to various conditions, pets like falcons are also allowed under specific conditions. All types of rodents and insects are prohibited from Royal Jordanian flights. All the relevant conditions and requirements will be discussed further in detail.

Size of the animal

The weight of the animal and the container must not exceed 7kg/15ibs in order to travel in the economy class. Container should be of adequate size to fit under the seat. i.e 19”x15”x10”. Domestic animals or household pets  may be transported as checked baggages if the exceed the above mentioned weight and container size criteria. There are no weight restrictions on the travel of animals under checked baggage but the animals will be charged depending on the  combined weight of pet and container.

Health certificate

The pet must be accompanied by valid health and vaccination certificates including the documents related to sprcial health conditions. Royal Jordanian airlines has importation of dogs from countries which are qualified as high risk for dog rabies. For the dogs who are not from the countries of high risk for rabies but have visited the concerned countries during previous 6 months, the importation has been suspended. These conditions are applied to all the dogs, puupies, service dogs and emotional support dogs, irrespective of the mode of carriage.

These rules are also applied to the passengers who are visiting the United States or returning to the United States from a vacation. In rare conditions CDC may give advance approval for importation of dogs from such countries in case the dog is fully immunised against rabies, to avail this approval, the person should be a US citizen or an owner of dog trained to assist the person with a disability. 

International travel regulations

All the countries have a different set of rules for pet travel or importation of pets from other countries, Royal Jordanian’s pet policy states that the passenger must carry all the relevant documents that are demanded by the country they are visiting. Many countries demand import permit, vaccination certificate, conciousness certificate, veternary certificate and additionally a pet passport. Sme of the countries demanded a clearance from quarantine officers and they required the owner and the pet to stay isolated for 14 days amid pandemic.

Temperature restrictions

Animals are sensitive to certain climatic conditions, for example a siberian huskey cannot survive in very high temperatures. According to Royal Jordanian’s pet policy dogs must not be accomodated in temperatures above 85F or below 45F for more than 4 hours. 

In cases where Royal Jordanian airlines cannot guarantee the minimum temperature i.e 45F, an acclimation certificate is demanded, this certificate indicates that the animal is acclimated to air temperatures lower than the minimum prescribed temperature. 

Special conditions applied

  • According to Royal Jordanian’s policy, only 4 pets are allowed per aircraft. Hence to ensure your pet’s eligibility to travel, one should enquire and complete the formalities atleast 4 days prior to the travel date. 
  • Pets will be treated as baggage but they will not be considered under the free baggage allowance of the passenger. The pets will be charged as extra baggage by Royal Jordanian airlines.
  • Royal Jordanian accepts service dogs (dogs for helping specially abled people) for travelling in cabin or cargo feee of charges. Although these dogs are allowed to travel in the cabin, they are subjected to certain protocols, they have to be properly harnassed, but they have to be kept away from all the seats.
  • Falcons are allowed in the cabins on rare occasions, mostly when the travellers destination is a gulf country. Falcons are allowed in economic class only, the handler must occupy a window seat. A chain or rope must be attached to the bird’s leg to control it. 
  • Valid health certificates must be provided.
  • Maximum two falcons are allowed per seat.

Charges to carry pets

  • For a container of 203cm and pet of 32kg, twice the normal excess baggage will be charged and it will increase with the adiditional pieces and weight of the pet.
  • One falcon is charged 3 times the normal access baggage charge.
