In 2012, a Chinese app named TikTok was launched by a Chinese Internet Entrepreneur, Zhang Yiming. Within months the app took over the world, counting to till today, there are over a billion active TikTok users all over the world. Before 2017 it was known as Douyin, Chinese TikTok, later, in 2017, it was launched internationally. On June 23rd, 2018, it was ranked as the fastest downloading app in the App Store in the world. Soon TikTok was available on everyone’s hand, and we got hooked by the app’s continuous scrolling and entertaining content throughout the day. Let’s know why TikTok was banned.

Why was TikTok not Banned in the U.S?

On 2020, August 6 Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders towards the ban of TikTok  in the U.S within 45 days of security concerns. Later on 14 August, Trump said in another meeting that TikTok will be banned permanently in the U.S if it did not sell to any U.S company, the deadline was extended many times after that. After Joe Biden was elected he withdrew the TikTok ban in June 2021, but he did order the Commerce Department to inquire about a fresh investigation on TikTok. Today, in 2022 TikTok is a leading social app in the U.S with  84.9 million users. In most apps, you will need to get a wide range of followers to get on the popular side but in TikTok, you will not need a large number of followers, due to its easy excess and rules it’s widely expanded in the U.S.

The Trump administration had feared that TikTok could be a threat to national security. TikTok is owned by a Chinese company that is doubted to collect the personal data of the users in the U.S. Millions of people believe it is just an entertaining platform, not a national security threat. The TikTok U.S General Manager said, TikTok is not going anywhere, it is a home for creators and artists to express themselves and ideas which connect people from different backgrounds. After a lot of threats and arguments, there was no evidence found that TikTok is a threat to U.S national security and does not collect more data than any  other social media app.

Should the U.S ban TikTok?

The U.S has the largest number of TikTok users in the world, and with the growing popularity of this entertaining platform, it is almost impossible to ban. Banning TikTok might not be the best option to solve any political issue, it might only create pressure on youngsters. The youngsters of  TikTok have created a platform where they can talk about their thoughts and even campaign, creating influencers and even TikTok celebrities. TikTok users have pulled out powerful positive voices against education, politics, and even black life matter hashtags.  There are defects of TikTok also which have a concern about kids, the content which appears on the feed  might be inappropriate for their age.

Is it illegal to use TikTok  in the U.S?

After many fights and threats against the TikTok due to concerns about national security, TikTok is finally legal to use in the U.S. The popular social entering app was first targeted by Donal Trump due to security concerns. The  date of banning the app was delayed and no proper evidence was found against TikTok.  TikTok users should not worry about its banned at least for now.

TikTok played an edge-to-edge game for getting a ban in the U.S, starting from the Trump administration delaying  with date, the Biden administration came up and withdrew all the expected bans from TikTok. Although Biden asked for a new inquiry for TikTok concerning national security. Due to its overloaded popularity among the youngsters in the U.S, it had always been in highlight during the threats against TikTok. The TikTok users started a campaign, representing their voices towards this ban policy. It never stayed in a ban phase for a longer period due to the uncertainty of evidence against it. It is now legal to use TikTok in the U.S  without any concern about leaking your private data, it has great concern about your  data.
