Is Farmacy Cruelty-Free?

Here we will see about the Is Farmacy Cruelty-Free?

Farmacy is a skincare brand popular for its vegan products. Farmacy is sustainable in nature and also helps in reducing inequality and food insecurity.

Is Farmacy Cruelty-Free?

It claims to be a cruelty free brand. They have confirmed that they do not test their products on any kind of animals nor do they supply their products to countries where animal testing is required by the law for example, Mainland China. They have recently stated on their website that they are Leaping Bunny Certified. They also follow stringent EU standards. They are mainly manufactured in the USA and Korea.

Farmacy might have claimed that they are cruelty free, but what happens once they are acquired by Procter & Gamble.

P&G is a multinational consumer goods corporation in Cincinnati, Ohia. P&G does not have any policies against cruelty free products and ingredients. They have publicly accepted the fact that they test some of their products on animals. As a parent company Procter & Gamble might also test Farmacy’s products and ingredients on animals.

Although Farmacy have stated that its parent company which is Proctor & Gamble does not do any animal testing, no confirmation has arrived from their side yet.

Why Not China?

Farmacy does not sell their products to any country where animal testing is required by the law and Mainland China is one of these country.

After doing some research I found out that from May, 2021, only some products are exempted from animal testing. However, as of 2022, a very large number of imported cosmetics and skincare are required to be animal tested.

Farmacy is Cruelty Free but is it 100% Vegan?

Cruelty-free and vegan does not always mean the same thing. According to the information provided on their website Farmacy can be said to be a cruelty free brand but it is definitely not 100% vegan as many of their products contain honey and beeswax.

Although you won’t be able to find any synthetic preservatives such as aldehydes, parabens, organic acids or perfumes in their products.

Even though Farmacy products are plant-based, it is still difficult to determine whether the product is full vegan by just looking at the ingredients.

Except for honey and beeswax which are both derived from bees, Farmacy does not uses any other ingredient derived from any sort of animal.

There are many other reasons besides these ingredients why the vegans do not support Farmacy. For example, sometimes beekeepers tend to clip off the queen bee’s wings to stop the worker bees from swarming and leaving the colony. This way they can control the behavior of the colony and that can be quite exploitative and unethical in nature.

Farmacy has also stated on their website that besides the honey line products as they are a byproduct of bees, every other products are 100% vegan i.e. ingredients are not derived for any animal.

Policies regarding Cruelty-Free and Vegan Products

There is no legal definition for both the labels of cruelty-free and vegan and they both have a general definition. Cruelty-free generally means that there can be no testing of any kind on animals and the label vegan simply means that one can use any ingredient or product which is derived from animals.

Farmacy and its Mica Mining Policy

Being cruelty-free and vegan is not the only thing we should think about when talking about skincare brands like Farmacy. Mica Mining is one of the important things one should know as mica is that mineral which is used in cosmetics for shimmery effect. The reason why i’m discussing mica mining is beacuse it is directly related with human right violations and child labour.

Farmacy has claimed that they ethically mine the mica mineral and no human right is being violated nor these is any child labour. They have stated that they deal with all  their employees with fairness and equality.  They have also reached out to their suppliers to check and determine further details related to certification, mines and check what labor practices are being carried out.

Farmacy anyhow has not yet given any specific location for the mica mines, so there is no way for us to trace and find out whether or not there is violations of human rights and child labour used for mining mica.

Conclusion

To conclude, although there is no solid evidence to prove that Farmacy is not cruelty free, the odds are largely in its favor. Neither has it been proved to be cruelty-free nor does it portray sketchy behavior. Thus, we have no reason to counter its claims of being cruelty-free but it is best to be unsure.

However, cruelty-free is not the same as being vegan. Farmacy may be a cruelty-free brand but it is not vegan. It sells a combination of both vegan and non-vegan products, and buyers must pay attention to ingredients for the same.
