EC2 Termination Policy- Types of Termination Policy

EC2 Termination Policy.

INTRODUCTION

EC 2 refers to Amazon Compute Cloud. The full form of EC2 is Elastic Compute Cloud. It provides scalable computing capacity to the Amazon Web Series (AWS) Cloud. The main feature of EC2 is that it provides an on-demand and scalable computing capacity in the AWS cloud. Also, it helps to run the applications much faster because it eliminates the need for upfront investment in hardware. While using the amazon elastic compute cloud, there is no need of maintaining the rented hardware. Here, let’s know about EC2 Termination Policy.

TERMINATION POLICY USED BY AWS EC2 SYSTEM

The EC2 termination policy focuses on Auto Scaling. Autoscaling is a method primarily used by cloud computing systems. It dynamically adjusts the amount of all the computational resources run by a particular server. It also measures the number of active servers. In simple terms, auto-scaling is a cloud computing feature of a server or a device that enables different organizations to scale cloud services. It performed activities such as maintaining server capacities or managing the positions of virtual machines etc. The termination policy used by Amazon EC2 auto-scaling determines the instances terminated during the scale-in events. In simple terms, the EC2 termination policy is made on the idea of the termination criteria used by Amazon EC2 auto-scaling.

The ec2 termination policy of the amazon web series (AWS) also follows the regulations of auto-scaling. The (AWS) Amazon Web series Auto Scaling monitors the user’s device and keeps an eye on his application. It helps to maintain the steady and predictable performance of that device at low prices. While using the auto-scaling, it is easier for the users to set up application scaling for many different types of resources through multiple servers. Also, this process is very user-friendly. It takes only a few minutes to set up application scaling on various resources. This service also provides a simple, powerful, and effective user interface experience. It helps the customers and other users to build many scaling plans for resources. These include Amazon EC2 instances, Amazon DynamoDB, Spot Fleets, Amazon aura, and many more. The auto-scaling with AWS makes scaling simple and easy even for beginners. The users or the company can also choose one or more termination policies while working.

TYPES OF TERMINATION POLICY

There are many different types of termination policies designed for performing specific tasks such as for old and new instances, auto-scaling, etc. However, the two common types of termination policies used in Amazon Web series ( AWS) Auto scaling and in EC2 are-

1. DEFAULT TERMINATION POLICY

In the default termination policy, multiple termination criteria are applied while selecting an instance to terminate. This termination method is used when the user wants to terminate or replace the Spot allocation. In default termination policy whenever a particular spot instance is terminated or replaced, the user can make use of it. It is also helpful when the user wants to move off launch configurations. The default termination policy while auto-scaling of the Amazon web series also helps in using launch templates. It is an automatically operated system. Therefore, the user can also replace the current or default termination policy with other policies such as oldest launch templates or oldest instances that have been set up by the EC2 termination policy. The default termination policy is useful when there are two or more two auto-scaling policies for a single group.

2. CUSTOMIZED TERMINATION POLICY

You can select the termination policy to work with. The customized termination policy gives their users a benefit to customize the termination policy which is available in one availability zone having many more instances. It is generally used to terminate the oldest or the largest instance in a group. In most cases, it is used by the users when they want to upgrade the instances present in the auto Scaling group. The customized termination policy is preferable when the user wishes to replace the instances that are present in the old form with the instances of the new form or type. Moreover, when the user wants to check the working of new launch configurations, he is more likely to use the customized termination policy provided by the Amazon Web series in its ec2 termination policy system.

CONCLUSION

Amazon elastic compute cloud Amazon EC2 provides the users with a broad computing platform with large numbers of instances, storage, networking, choice of latest processing units, operating systems, etc. The Amazon EC2 instances are used to enable on-demand auto-scaling techniques for terminating the instances. It facilitates the application to run faster than before. The common types of termination policies used by the AWS are the default termination policy and the customized termination policy. Both of them are used in different activities; the common task performed by them is to maintain the new and old instances existing in the system.
