  • Gimbels is closing down. The Miracle on 34th Street department store ends with the closing of the Southside Works location. The store was closed on January 15, 2018. The Southside Works location was the company’s first location in the city.

Gimbels was the first major department store to close down in Pittsburgh since the turn of the twentieth century. The department store had been a pioneer in the industry, but now it was time for new trends to take over.
