Does OfferUp accept PayPal Payment?

It is not advisable to use PayPal on OfferUp. OfferUp gives you protection through OfferUp’s Buyer Protection Program. So using other apps such as PayPal and Venmo might complicate things. Transfers through Western Union, MoneyGram even personal or certified cheques should be avoided.

Recognized Payment Methods

After shopping and making your choice of item (s), they will be sent to you and you will have to make payment to claim them. Not every payment method is accepted on OfferUp. To avoid complications, use the below-listed methods of payment:

  1. Use credit and debit cards such as:
  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • JCB
  • Diners Club
  • Discover
  1. Apple pay

Note: Do not use prepaid debit cards or gift cards as they are not accepted.

How to Pay

You are to pay based on the mode of trading used. That is, if you are to meet up with the trader, then you can pay cash. But if the trader is not far away, then you will have your purchase shipped to you and you won’t have to pay cash. Listed below are ways you can pay to avoid issues:

  1. I- Person

As earlier stated, if the trader is accessible to you, then you can go over and make your purchase. This is advantageous as you get to examine the item (s) before making payment. You can then pay cash.

  1. OfferUp Shipping

For purchases that will require shipping of the item, your credit or debit card will be requested. The trader will have to accept your offer before you are charged.

You are to pay through your app. That means you will have to add your credit or debit card to your OfferUp account so you can easily pay through it.

After your offer is accepted, your payment will be authorized but you will not be charged until your purchase is delivered to you. After which you will be given two (2) days to examine your purchase and make a purchase protection claim.

If no claim is made then it is assumed you are satisfied with your purchase. After two days, you will be charged and the trader will be paid.

Returns and Refunds

If you find something wrong with the item (s) sent to you, you have the right to file a claim and request a refund.

2-Day Purchase Protection

Using OfferUp gives you 2-day purchase protection. This covers issues such as:

  • The item/items being damaged when it was delivered
  • The item/items not being as described
  • The item/items not getting to you
  • The item/items missing

After 6 days and the purchased item is not shipped, payment will be canceled.

Note that if an item doesn’t fit or you no longer like it, OfferUp will not protect that. Also if you made payment by cash, OfferUp will not protect any issue that may arise.

How do I File a Claim?

To file a claim:

  • Inform the seller of the problem and wait for a response through OfferUp (check notification).
  • When there is no response or a decline after two working days, use the app “Get help from OfferUp” button located in the refund confirmation message.
  • The buyer protection form will pop up. Fill out the form, providing every information needed
  • OfferUp will access your request. With adequate evidence and documents, your request will be accepted. It can be denied if OfferUp is not satisfied.
  • You will be asked to return the item/ items. Follow the instructions given on how to return.
  • You will get a refund if your return is approved. Your refund will include the shipping costs.
