It was founded in 1953. The Whopper, the franchise’s signature product, was added in 1957. Hence, it wasn’t there since the beginning, but it has been there for a long time now. And it has gone several changes threw out time, and it has some variants as well. The Impossible Whopper is one of these many variants the Whopper has. And what is exactly the Impossible Whopper? Well, we will tell you. It is a plant-based meat burger designed to taste and feel like a regular burger. This means it even has the texture of regular beef meat. It even has the same nutrients as meat. Only, it isn’t. Therefore, if you want to start eating less meat, or, if you already are a vegetarian, this is the burger for you. It still has 626 calories, so you better not eat them so often. 

We must add, it has been very successful, increasing sales 6% on stores that sell them, with new and recurring customers both enjoying the product. 

Price

The Impossible Whopper started small in some stores in the United States, but it soon became a worldwide product. Hence, prices may vary depending on the country you are in. In the United States, the Impossible Whopper costs a whopping 6.19 dollars, compared to the 4.99 dollars of the regular whopper. However, take into account that this whopper didn’t kill any animals, doesn’t destroy the world, and is better for you. So, the extra price is valid here. 

How do they do it?

They developed this product in association with Impossible Foods. Impossible Foods is a company that specializes in just that: making vegetarian food, that looks like meet. Like sausages and many more products. They aim to make food that is healthier for you, and better for the environment. But that tastes and looks like the food you are used to eating. What they do is, research animal products on a molecular level, and then search for those nutrients and proteins in plants. Then, they give a whole new product, but that it is the same.

Market forecast

Interest in this kind of food seems to be growing. It is estimated that it goes from a 4.6 billion market value in 2018, to go to 6.4 billion in 2023. This is because people don’t want to keep eating meat the way they were doing it. They not only want to be healthier, but they also want to take care of the planet and be less cruel to other animals. And this seems to be the trend. Products like the Impossible Whopper are only becoming more and more common out there. 

Competition

  • McDonald’s created its own meat-free burger called the P.L.T., which stands for a plant, lettuce, and tomato. They design their burger with Beyond Meat, the closest competition to Impossible Food. They took their time to do it, for whatever reason, but they did it. It costs 4.90 dollars, so it is less expensive than the Impossible Whopper. However, the experiment was a failure, and now the burger is gone. The test started in Canada, and it ended in Canada as well. 
  • Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) also started their experiment with Beyond Fried Chicken. They sell nuggets and chicken wings made of plants. However, their test has run positive though, and they are still doing it. The price of the bucket is 14.99. It includes 12 nuggets, a drink, two dipping sauces, and a side item. It is pretty expensive, but, remember why. 
  • Even Subway has launched its vegan product. But only in Finland and the United Kingdom.   
  • Even IKEA entered the market, however just in Spain at the moment, with a hot dog with vegan sausage. 
  • As you can see, more and more companies enter the market every year, trying to satisfy a demand that is growing every year. And that is, eating less meat.

The Impossible Whopper is a good burger that offers a vegan alternative to the usually all meat products of Burger King. But now, they are trying to be more inclusive, and are trying to be there for people that usually were left in the small restaurants. Well, now it is going mainstream. And fast. And it is a good thing. If you haven’t tried it, by all means, do. It is good food. And now, it is worldwide too. 

IF you are a vegetarian, there is no point convincing you, however, if you aren’t, remember, the planet is suffering from all the food consumption every year.
