Why do People hate Amazon?

Amazon has been referred to as one of the most influential economic and cultural forces globally. It has grown to be a gigantic multinational technology company. Let’s know Why do People hate Amazon?

Amazon started as an online book-selling marketplace and has since surpassed its ambitions, thus becoming a multitude of product categories. Despite the overwhelming growth and positive impacts it has dragged along with it, not everyone likes it, so why do people hate amazon?

There are different reasons why people might hate Amazon. Some of the reasons may include poor customer service, poor products, employee treatment, etc. In this article, we shall be taking a look at the different reasons in detail.

Poor customer service

As much as customer service agents tend to address customers politely and ethically, most of them tend to be ignorant of issues that they are addressing. A customer would end up not being assisted in the long run because the real problem that prompted them to try and reach customer service is hardly satisfactorily solved.

Most times, they offer solutions that are already available, and it is possible that you have tried them out and failed, and that is why you are trying to reach them for more informed solutions.

Cardboard wastage

Environmentalists have raised legitimate concerns over the use of cardboard boxes. Thes boxes which amazon is fond of using in packaging are rarely reused, and millions of them are shipped yearly and end up in garbage sites. The real concern that the environmentalists are worried about is the cutting of more trees to make more card boxes.

Amazon prime is overpriced

Amazon prime, as the name suggests, is considered to be one of the costlier subscription services compared to other sites that offer an almost equivalent commodity value. Amazon prime has since increased its yearly subscription by $20 from $199 to $139 per year. For the customers who opt for no commitment monthly option would also increase from $12.99 to $14.99. The current prices are set to take effect after March 2022.

Amazon treats its employees badly

From delayed salary to inhumane treatment, amazon still makes the working conditions of their employees to be considered unethical. The employees do not receive paid time off even if feeling unwell; they are only allowed 80 hours of sick days per year. Some workers are reported to work very long hours, which causes fatigue and results in severe medical problems if not addressed.

Amazon causes a slow death to small booksellers

Independent bookstores are facing a shutdown because of amazon’s huge grip on the book industry. Other businesses are also facing similar threats due to the huge competition that amazon is posing.

It is not convenient

Most things purchased on amazon are not convenient to take for example clothes. These can be done faster and more reliably by just visiting a physically existing store, you have the liberty to fit on clothing until you get your required preference. This is unlike Amazon where you would have to undergo a painstaking process of thorough scrutiny just to return one piece which could take ages.

High prices

Most customers complain that amazon sells products way too expensive than what the brand manufacturer would. The products sometimes tend not to be worth much due to prolonged shipping prices and the time it takes to reach the customers. This however does not affect amazon prime users that much due to an already overinflated subscription price.

Fake reviews

What annoys most users is the overwhelming flood of fabricated and bot accounts that give fake reviews on product pages to attract sales. Most reviews are added by sellers who fail to make enough sales due to poor product quality or just poor marketing strategies. This has led to the continuous purchase of wrong products by unsuspecting customers. which contributes to a waste of their time, effort, and most importantly money.

Large carbon footprint

Environmentalists are at it again with more legitimate concerns on the issue of carbon emission by amazon which does not settle well even with most people who are not much into environmental conservation.

Amazon sellers are unfairly treated

Amazon allows customers to leave nasty reviews on the seller’s page even though there may be nothing wrong with the product. This would in turn force them to buy back products that have thumbs down on them. The sellers have no option but to oblige just to stay in business. It is said that they are forced to buy them back at the same price that customers are being sold to.

Conclusion

In summary, Amazon has received its fair share of negative actions that it has dragged the world along with. Nevertheless, it has created employment opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people across the globe and has contributed a lot to giving back to the community through in-kind and cash donations. There is always room for improvement and amazon as the giant that it is, should set a good example to other ambitious young starters.
