Is Ikea Coming To Louisiana Or New Orleans?

It is not. Ikea is not interested in New Orleans. Why? The population, it’s too little a town. Business models are unforgiven that way, you shouldn’t break them. Not for anybody. Because Louisiana, you might think, is sophisticated and rich enough to be near an Ikea store. And you would be right. But the whole state has less than 5 million citizens. And all spread out. New Orleans has less than 400,000 people. That is their major city. Mexico City alone has more population than all of Louisiana. Texas, for example, has 29 million people. That is the reason Texas has up to five Ikeas in their state. People! So, don’t expect to have an Ikea near any time soon. I even asked an Ikea customers service fella, and he said to me that it is not in their plans.

Why?

Also, Ikea has its objectives. For example, for there to be an Ikea, the needs to be at least 2,000,000 in a radio of 40 – 60 miles. I assume New Orleans is very pretty and very nice. But, because of that, they can’t have an Ikea.

Ikea plan on sustainability

Ikea consumes 1% of all the wood in the world. That’s commercial-related wood of course. That means that to counter that, they must have plans and objectives. Well, let’s check them out. As they state on their webpage, they have three major objectives for 2030. Climate change, unsustainable consumption, and inequality. That means they want to compensate for the damage they do, by regenerating resources and continuing to grow. And how? Well, first, by giving Ikea furniture a second life, by creating a global green energy community, by introducing more good food that is good for the planet, being 100% in renewable energy, promoting gender balance and equal pay, and more.

Credit card

If you are in the United States, there are two types of cards that you can get. The Ikea Visa credit card and the Ikea project card. They are both very different but very helpful. The Ikea Visa credit card is accepted everywhere Visa is also accepted. And, it gives you 5% of your purchase back in points. The Ikea project card, if you can get it, will give you payment plans of up to 6, 12, and 24 months. Although there is minimum spending for each plan, it is a great buy if you are planning on a big purchase in Ikea. And, if you want to, you can get both cards, and get all the benefits. You can apply to both cards on their webpage, just filling out the information that they ask for.

Working for Ikea

Also, Ikea is raising the minimum salary to 16$ per hour in the United States. And, depending on location, to 17 or 18$. That is pretty impressive. This is something that is happening only in the United States, though. Although, it should be a global thing. Because they are also giving more benefits and stuff like that.

Ikea, like Walmart?

Ikea is criticized as well. Because it is European maybe it has better fame, but it is just the same critics. That their stores are too big. That they pollute too much, those other local stores have to close because of them, and such. It is unavoidable. Once you become successful, you will become criticized as well. Are the critics right? Probably. Imagine, you own a local furniture store and an Ikea store comes to town. Then, probably, things will get tough on you.

Conclusion

Ikea is not interested in New Orleans and Ikea is not going to Louisiana. One of the most emblematic states in the United States. Because it is. It has everything. It has Jazz, history, culture, even a little French. But the people will not have an Ikea. At least not in the future that we can see. As long as that is the business plan, that is the story. If you live in Louisiana, you can go to Texas to buy your Ikea stuff, though. It is like a five-hour drive, but it can be worth it if you really want that furniture. Or, just buy locally. It is not a bad idea either. Not everything needs to come from a big store.
