Where Does KFC Get its Chicken?

It was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders, 91 years ago, in Kentucky, US. Since then, it has been serving the taste buds of people who love fried chicken nuggets. 1. KFC UK &Ireland

KFC has some connections abroad for its regular supply of meat. It has recently been revealed that the UK and Ireland are the significant suppliers responsible for the original chicken on the Bone of KFC. According to the reports by Press Release, the first Annual Chicken Welfare Progress Report was released by KFC UK and Ireland. 

It mentioned a total of 34 suppliers in both countries consisting of 350 chicken farms. This report on suppliers and chicken farms was prepared by the auditors of FAI Farms. These suppliers have taken every possible measure to provide the best conditions to their chicken farms. 

They just want to have chickens that were bred in good conditions and are healthy enough for the fast-food chain. There is no doubt that these are the most responsible suppliers who have been trying hard for the welfare of these chickens. 

2. Tyson Foods, Incorporation

Tyson Foods, Inc. is one of the largest processors and suppliers of all kinds of meat around the world. Though it is a huge American multinational corporation, it has always been in the news for its unethical and vile practices. 

Tyson Fresh Meats has been responsible for the processing and supply of beef, pork, and chicken to not just KFC but several other fast-food chains. Various lawsuits have been filed against it for the violation of animal welfare rights and also the violation of its employees. The chicken farms were found to be in unhealthy conditions. 

The KFC meat supplying farms of Tyson Foods in Tennessee and Georgia were also bashed by PETA for animal cruelty. All the chickens supplied by Tyson are raised in the US itself and it does not import chickens from other countries.

3. Bidvest Logistics

Bidvest Logistics was also one of the suppliers of KFC chickens but in 2017 they lost their contract with KFC. A few months later in 2018, KFC ran out of chicken supplies and had to shut down hundreds of its stores. 

It was then that the American fast-food chain welcomed back their original chicken supplier Bidvest Logistics and resumed their agreement. Bidvest signed a long-term agreement with KFC and promised to provide fresh and healthy chickens to the kitchens of KFC.

4. Other Sources

Some of the KFC chickens are from British poultries, while the remaining 

comes from different suppliers all around. However, KFC does not prefer importing meat from China. Collins Foods has also been in business with KFC as well as Taco Bell.

Quality of the Chicken Meat used by KFC

The quality of the chickens used by KFC has been a matter of discussion and controversy. Some would say that those chickens are genetically modified and are not real, while some say that they are just a lump of boneless flesh without beaks or feathers. 

Well, to clear the air, KFC chickens are all flesh and blood and very much real. They are typically raised in poultries. Though, KFC had admitted that those chickens do suffer from inflammations, and weakened hearts and liver while they are still alive. But meat on our plate is not artificially distorted. Those chickens are fresh and tender. 

Use of Antibiotics

It was revealed by KFC that antibiotics had been in use by them. They accepted that the chickens were loaded with antibiotics to increase their growth hormone. However, in April 2017 the American fast-food chain promised to stop using those antibiotic drugs and took a step ahead towards better health care for its chickens as well the customers.
