History

Toyota was invented by Sakichi Toyoda in 1924 and the model’s name was G automatic loom. As it can be easily assumed by its name that it has some automatic function. As soon as any problem is detected, the machine itself gets stopped. 

Under the guidance of Kiichiro Toyoda, son of the founder, Toyoda declared its motive of manufacturing automobiles in January 1934. As Toyoda means ‘fertile rice paddies’ it did not sound relatable to automobiles at all so the name then changed to Toyota Motor Company Ltd and was registered on August 28, 1937. 

Initially, Kiichiro had very little experience in automobile production so he focused on truck production, and the company’s first truck was formed in 1935, and in 1936, Toyoda released its first passenger car. The company completed its first export order of four trucks in July 1936.

During World War II, Japan’s economy was heavily damaged and so was Toyota company. The passenger cars were banned by the occupying forces but the formation of trucks was allowed for civilian matters and to balance the country’s economy. As 1950 began, the company emerged from the financial crisis. At the same time, the Korean War broke out and led the U.S to order more than a thousand trucks from Toyota to help it improve its condition. 

During the same year, the company’s officials visited the U.S and examined the manufacturing of American trucks which helped them for Toyota’s growth in the world. Later on, Toyota started shipping Land Cruisers to Latin America, Burma, Australia and established branches in Thailand and Brazil. 

During the 1960 s-1980s, Japan’s economy rose to heights by taking advantage of this, Toyota offered reasonable cars as the income of everyday people also grew. Again in 2011, Toyota along with other superior automobile companies suffered a lot due to earthquakes and tsunamis. By 2020, it regained its position as the largest automobile manufacturer in the world.

Toyota produces vehicles under five brands namely Daihatsu, Hino, Lexus, Ranz, and Toyota. It was honored for being a prominent company in producing fuel-efficient vehicles. They now export more than 30 hybrid vehicles around the world. Toyota set a record in 2012 as the world’s first automobile company to produce more than ten million vehicles per year. It has been listed in various stock exchanges like London Stock Exchange, New York Stock Exchange, Tokyo Stock Exchange.
