Fortunately, Disney+ has us covered. The new series Monsters At Work is a spinoff of Pixar’s classic film franchise and takes place six months after Monstropolis switched over to power that’s generated by laughter rather than screams. And while not a Pixar production, it was produced by ICON Creative Studios, Canada. Let’s know how to watch monsters at work.

Monsters At Work release date

Monsters At Work was released on Disney Plus on the 7th of June 2021. The spin-off series will continue the story of Monsters Inc, with Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan working as scarers in an alternate universe and trying to deal with their new responsibilities as parents.

The TV show was originally going to be titled ‘Monsters at Play’ but later changed its name due to concerns about confusion among viewers who might mistake it for a preschool show aimed at children under five years old (or even younger). The official title refers back to a line from Monsters University where Sulley tells Boo that he doesn’t want her to grow up too fast because “you’re still my best friend.” That line is also referenced by his daughter Celia when she’s upset about having moved away from her father after college graduation; she says she wants him around so he can see how much she’s grown up over time.

Fun facts

Here are a few fun facts to celebrate the continuation of one of Pixar’s most popular(but not owned) franchises.

  • Sulley has over 2.3 million hairs on his body. I’d hate to see his bathroom when he molts.
  • Pixar came up with the ideas for Monsters Inc, Wall-E, Finding Nemo, and A Bug’s Life over a lunch meeting back in 1994. Talk about a stroke of inspiration!
  • Boo is voiced by one of the story artist’s daughters. Must have been quite the ‘Bring your daughter to work day’.
  • And speaking of Boo’s voice actor, the staff had to follow her around to capture her voice and play sounds because she was too young to keep still in the recording room.
  • Randy Newman won his first Oscar award for the film’s closing song “If I Didn’t Have You” after 15 nominations in the ‘Best Score’ and ‘Best Song’ categories. If this isn’t proof of dedication, then I don’t know what is.
  • Boo’s toy collection in her room holds an array of Easter eggs from other Pixar Productions. These include Luxo ball, Jessie from Toy Story, and even Nemo from Finding Nemo.
  • Speaking of Easter eggs, did you know that Mike Wazowski has cameos in Finding Nemo, Cars, Wall-E, and Toy Story 3? That must have been a good lunch meeting.
Conclusion

To conclude, it’s a good series to watch. The show manages to carry the same wacky, feel-good humor it did in the original movie franchises while introducing new challenges and material to work with.
