WHO IS THE FOUNDER OF CHOXI NOMORERACK?

Choxi was an e-retail website founded in November 2011 by Deepark Agarwal. “An entrepreneur, founder, visionary, investor, strategic advisory, and a philanthropist who has formed and led businesses in a variety of industries, spanning online retail, consumer packaged goods to business process outsourcing (BPO)” Or at least that is what his LinkedIn profile says. In reality, Deepark “Dee” Agarwal is a businessman known for his woeful failures in business management and his very sneaky deeds. From failed organizations like contact center and offshoring which he established to his attachments to ownership of p*rnographic sites which he made million (back in the 2000s when people paid to get access to p*rnographic sites). Although he denied owning such sites, old high school friend Matt Groover says otherwise with clear evidence of emails he received on behalf of Deepark.

WHAT IS CHOXI NOMORERACK?

The company was initially known as nomorerack until it received a trademark infringement lawsuit from Nordstrom, which Prompted a name in April 2015 Choxi. How did Choxi operate? And most of all what made it so popular? Choxi was not your regular e-retail website, it was place where you could get thousands of items from fashion to electronics at unbeatable discount prices. The only twist was that it was timed, so you had to get what you want before the time ran out. Its fame grew so much that Deepark caught the attention of giant tech executives which landed him a spot as a speaker at the 2015 Deutsche bank tech conference held in Los Vegas. Choxi grew so fast in so little time, making a profit of over $9 million in just five years. How did Choxi the e-retails website manage to rack up such popularity and sales in such little time? The answer is simple… an incredible amount of advertising on social media and television. It even got praise from Facebook COO Sheryl Sandburg.

THE DOWNFALL OF CHOXI NOMORERACK

It all seemed to be going pretty well until a swam of negative reviews came up from customers, who hadn’t gotten their package, those who received damaged or substantial goods as well as an almost nonexistent customer service. The customers only had access to a customer service email which took days to get a response from or even none at all as the phone lines went unanswered. That was not all, there were a lot of complaints from vendors as well who never received payment after delivering their service. The company lost a lot of credibility after this series of events. Call it a lack of proper PR or a case that got out of hand but what even made it worse was when Choxi’s facebook page mysteriously disappeared without a word from the executives. There were reports of someone going around and deleting negative reviews on sites and fan pages. Although there was a contrast of people who had only good things to say about the products and services at Choxi, the negative reviews outweigh them all.

Here are some of the many reviews customers left;

  • “My daughters’ boots have fallen apart already. What kind of deal is buying boots and having them fall apart in less than two months?
  •  “This site is a SCAM! DO NOT SHOP, Spread the word. Paradise Laptop is a SCAM!”

Since Choxi never kept track of the purchases, they could not help any of these customers.

EFFORTS MADE TO REBRAND CHOXI

Some efforts were made to revive Choxi’s image, but it was not enough to cover-up for the previous mistakes. For starters, The investors kicked CEO Deepark Agarwal off the company’s affairs and left it in the hands of executives who knew management and retail. Vishal Argawal, the chief marketing officer also left while Choxi filed for bankruptcy as they ceased all operations. Afterward, an email from the Choxi team went surfaced in it, Choxi acknowledged their difficulties and asked for more time to resolve the issues. Much later, another email was sent to customers declaring their new affiliation toJclub.com. “We are excited to share with you that the United States Bankruptcy Court has approved an the interim license of assets of Choxi, and may be asked on January 19, 2017, to approve a long-term license or sale of those assets, to an affiliate of JClub.com.”

In all, we see that Choxi is a product of a reckless Business owner who has a reputation for mismanaging companies. Unfortunately, as successful as Choxi could have been, it was in the hands of an incompetent man. So, Choxi is not a scam.
