With its continuous growth, several courier services have also  developed. These FedEx competitors are working to dominate the parcel delivery market. Despite the struggle, only one of the  competitors has managed to defeat FedEx in its operations.  

FedEx led the package tracking system which provides real-time  updates on the actual location of a parcel.  

Currently, there are many couriers some trying to outdo their founder FedEx.

United Parcel Services (UPS)  

This is a multinational shipping company founded in 1907 by James  Casey. It was formerly known as the American Messenger Company and  it specialized in telegraphs. UPS widened its services from a  telegraphing company and currently, it’s among the fortune 500  companies.  

It is well known for its ground shipping services plus it has its store  called UPS store which takes part in UPS shipments and gives tools for  businesses. The service has the largest revenue in the market followed  by FedEx and DHL.  

DHL 

This is a logistics company from Germany that provides express mail,  package delivery, and courier services. Its sub-branch DHL Express is the  leading parcel service provider in Europe and German’s main courier  service. It was founded in 1969 by Larry Lee Hillblom, an American  businessman who later sold it due to bankruptcy.  

It started operations from San Fransisco in the States and slowly  expanded its horizons to other parts of the world. DHL delivers small  packages in association with United States Postal Services through its  micro-network DHL Global Mail.  

APL Logistics  

This is a Japan-based freight forwarding and transportation company  with its headquarters in Singapore. It is known for its global chain  supply specialty. It was founded in 1980 after importers became needy  for a way to manage the flow of their goods.  

APL created American Consolidation Services which was responsible for  monitoring the movement of goods to consolidation points and  shipping of goods according to the requirements of the buyer. From its  root in Japan, the logistics company currently operates in over 60  countries with no specific field for it has its hands in all the markets  from the automobile market to retail traders.  

XPO logistics  

It was founded in 1989 by Keith Avery and Michael Welch. Its main aim  was to reduce the truckload and truck brokerage. The headquarters of  this company is in Greenwich, Connecticut in the U.S  

Originally it was called Express-1 Solutions Inc but after an American  businessman purchased it, he renamed it XPO logistics. After the 

purchase, the businessman expanded its networks to North America  and this increased its popularity hence its use.  

Currently, XPO offers its service in up to 18 different countries with  offices in Greenwich, Buchanan, Ann Arbor, Carol Stream, and 9 other  offices spread in the world  

TNT  

Thomas Nationwide Transport is an Australian-based logistics company  founded in 1946. Ken Thomas was the founder who owned one truck  and used it to transport commodities hence the name.  

The company provides mail, parcel, and e-commerce services to  Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and other parts of the world.  It is a distribution company with its headquarters located in the  Netherlands.  

It currently offers road and air delivery services to all parts of the world.  It became a branch of FedEx in 2015 intending to expand its operations.  Despite being FedEx’s branch, it still competes with FedEx in the  distribution chain.  

DB Schenker  

It is a division of Deutsche Bahn a German rail operator focusing on  logistics. It was acquired in 2002 and deals in air, land, sea, and freight  contracts. Deutsche Bahn is the largest rail operator and infrastructure  owner in Europe with DB Schenker Logistics and DB Schenker Rail as  units. The two units above were combined and now operate as a  combined sector. 

The company deals with many global and local firms, in addition, it also  deals with some of the large multinational supply chains of  commodities.  

Deutsche Bahn also owns DB Cargo the largest cargo transporter in the  United Kingdom.

In conclusion, FedEx is in the logistics, shipping, freight, and delivery  sector and it has some competitors. The competitors can either be  some of its sub-branches or other companies dealing in the same field  with FedEx and offering similar services or a bit different to the  company.  

Despite the competition, FedEx is still among the top if not the leading  parcel and freight delivery services. As we know for something to be  significant it needs a bit of competition so that the firm can put its best  foot forward. Therefore, the above companies are among the reasons  why FedEx is ensuring the provision of quality services to us.
