Employees of FedEx Corporate, Express, and Service get airfare discounts even for their family members but under one condition they should be flying on standby to avail of these discounts. 

Standby meaning

Flying standby means that you do not have a reserved seat, after all the confirmed passengers have boarded the flight and there are some extra seats left then you’ll be given this extra seat. 

The good thing about being a standby is that if there’s an extra seat available for the flight and you’re an employee or immediately close (spouse, child, or parent) to an employee of FedEx then you can get the flight ticket at a discounted rate. 

But, the disadvantage of being a standby is that you never know if you’ll be able to get an empty seat on a flight or not. It’s simply luck by chance.

Priority list of Standby :-

  You might want to keep in mind the priority that is given to the standby passengers to confirm their seats. The priority list is as given below:-

Passengers having a ticket but are still on standby

  • Commuting Pilots
  • Commuting Flight Assistances
  • Leisure Pilots
  • Leisure Flight Assistances
  • Employees of FedEx and their immediate family members or other courier services.

Standby tickets are only valid till 90 days of their date of issuance. After this, they’ll expire and become invalid.

Presence of the Employee is Not Required with the Family 

FedEx employees don’t need to be present with their spouse, children, or parents if they wish to fly solo but they’ll need to provide the FedEx photo id of you (the employee) to the airline. 

The discount for FedEx employees on flight tickets differs from destination to destination and also by the contract FedEx has with the airline. Also, you need to clear the Personal Travel Certification Test of FedEx, for 6 months to get the discounts. 

This test proves to FedEx that you’ll behave in an appropriate manner that won’t affect the company’s image negatively when flying on standby. The test doesn’t require any fee to be taken.

Guidelines for Availing the Discounts

The guidelines for availing discounts by FedEx on airfare are as follows:-

  • You need to purchase a standby ticket at least 7 days before for the day you wish to travel on.
  • You must also list it to the airline that you’ll be traveling on standby as you’re an employee of FedEx.
  • You can use the airline’s website to buy the ticket or use ‘https://www.myidtravel.com/myidtravel/ui/’ in which you’ll have to enter your FedEx id and password to book a ticket.
  • On the day you wish to fly, FedEx advises that you arrive at the airport 90 to 120 minutes before the departure of your flight.
  • You’ll need to provide your photo Id that is issued by the government and if you have a FedEx-issued photo Id then that too.
  • Kindly note that your dependents who are above the age of 18 too should have a Government-issued Id and if your minors are accompanied then the company won’t allow accessing this discount.
