“Prodigal Son” is an American drama. It is narrated by blending two different literary genres. This kind of presentation is called Procedural drama. This procedural drama involves the stories related to the crimes, how the crimes are solved, agencies related to the Law enforcement ETC. Fox Broadcasting company had started this television series. This particular television series premiered on 23rd of September 2019 and ended on May 18, 2021. The two seasons are shown. Before the third one the series was cancelled. TOM PAYNE- He plays the role of Malcolm Bright, he worked for the FBI. He has lost his reputation because of his scandalous actions. At present, he works for the New York Police Department. He has committed twenty-three murders as a surgeon in the series and he is shown to spend his present days at an asylum.
Plot Of The Series:
The plot revolves around Malcolm Bright, the protagonist of the story. Bright’s father is known for his outrageous serial killings and was called ”the Surgeon”. As a child, Malcolm helped the Police to arrest his father. Last ten years, he has not even seen his father. He was appointed to be an FBI agent. But later, he was expelled from his position. Then he was appointed to the New York Police. Malcolm somehow has to confront his father while investigating a crime where he has to solve a similar case of murder. It was committed in the same manner as his father did. The murders were as similar as his father. Malcolm has to use the thoughts and insights of his father in order to solve the case.
The Reasons Behind The Cancellation Of This Popular Series :
- The possible reasons behind the ending of the season are the reduction of viewers. The reduction in the number of viewers is responsible for this. As told by Fox, the series was not as popular as the other crime thrillers that were broadcast on the same platform. There was a shortage of 39% viewers between the first and the second series.
- Fox has been accused of removing the popular series despite having a high rating. It leads many actors to become uninterested in working with Fox.
- Fox network has canceled the popular shows because of its agreement with NFL (National Football league). Here the Football team has asked Fox to provide 30 hours to them. Fox has purchased the right to telecast this football league with a deal of $550 million per year. Fox has canceled popular shows such as Prodigal son, The Exorcist, The Last Man on earth, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Lucifer, for running the show.
Reaction Of Fans:
The Fans were extremely disheartened because of the removal of this series. On Twitter, they have appealed for the show and requested the coordinators not to end the show. They demanded, particularly, for the third season. But Fox seemed to be unappalled with these demands. Cast members were also surprised by this sudden ending. Fans could find many new things in the cancelled season. They requested Netflix to resume the show.
- Netflix cannot adopt Prodigal son because of the issues related to the license agreement. The streaming sites are associated with different production companies. But unfortunately, Netflix does not have any right to stream or resume the left episodes. Even in the regional divisions, Prodigal’s son could not be found.
- On Hulu also Prodigal Son” could not be found. Fans also requested Hulu to take over Prodigal- son. Hulu subscribers found that there is no updated version of shows available on Hulu. Many channels are creating their streaming platforms. Thus platforms like Netflix and Hulu are suffering.
- HBO Max has got the offer to resume the show. By exclusively making the third season HBO Max can start the show again. But they have declined to receive this order. From May 2021 the show was offered to various streaming sites, where they can start the final season.
