The Art of Fiber: Stephanie McGovern Spinning Masterpieces

image

Raised in a small farming town outside of San Francisco, Fiber Artist Stephanie McGovern, discovered the power of threads, forms, and materials through the gallery community and harassed them to create breathtaking sculptures. Making anything from installations to wearable apparel, is there anything she can’t do?

Constructing pieces of Ruby Rose’s face to abstract cloth and thread formations, Stephanie McGovern has been through the loop (no pun intended) of what goes into making thoughtful installation pieces. Ranging from handheld to wall scale, McGovern does not limit her ability to create.

She has also been very active in the trade show scene since 2011, creating
one of a kind woven and Shibori acid dyed scarves for Renegade Craft
Fair and Santa Rosa’s annual winter Shop Party. Her most recent projects
include collaborating with designer Dominic Chambrone, a.k.a “The Shoe
Surgeon,” on integrating hand woven fabric with custom footwear and
donating an art piece to Root Division for their 2015 benefit show “Taste.”
