Does Amazon own Oracle?-Know More

Introduction To Amazon

Are you excited to read the topic Does Amazon own Oracle?

There is constant friction between the giant tech companies and the resources that they make use of to grow their business. Every company is in a rush of belittling the other company to establish its monopoly in the market. This has become more prominent as data has gained importance in this world of technology. A company while having its own database services is bound to use its own services to store its data.

Does Amazon own Oracle

Amazon uses Oracle databases to store and keep track of its data.

The platform has tons of data to be stored, owing to the large number of people who use it for multiple things. For such purposes, Amazon relies on the Oracle database to store its data. However, Oracle is not owned by Amazon. It is only the database that is being used by the organization to store the huge data that it has. Amazon is using Oracle to store its data and manage it more efficiently. Although it has its own cloud services, it relies on Oracle for managing and storing its data. This has led to some friction between the company and the CTO of Oracle.

Amazon has now given up on Oracle and shifted to its own services.

Due to this dependency of such a large organization on a third-party platform to store its data, it has been mocked by Larry Ellison, the CTO of Oracle several times in many famous events. This compelled Amazon to make the official announcement of getting away from Oracle and its services by the end of 2020. This announcement also invited jeers from the CTO of Oracle who stated that the company has been dependent on its database for more than 10 years and they have not been able to get off from it. Ironically, Amazon has its own cloud service named the Amazon Web Services (AWS) which is used by people all over the world to store and manage their data.

After a period of constant friction between Amazon and Oracle, Amazon has now finally moved on to using its own database. The company has migrated nearly 75 petabytes of data from the Oracle database to its own services. This data covered several of Amazon’s famous services like Kindle and Twitch. They have also reduced the cost of their database by nearly 60 percent and increased the speed of their consumer-facing applications. This has been done mainly to attract more users and sustain itself in a place that is already dominated by giants like Oracle and other companies. After the continuous jeers, the prolonged dependency of the company on a third-party organization for storing its data could no longer be continued further. This made Amazon finally shift to its own services.

Amazon took several measures to manage data after leaving Oracle

Amazon has migrated its data to its own services like Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Aurora, and Amazon Redshift which is now responsible for managing its data and storing it. Although these services had been in existence earlier, Amazon still relied on Oracle for storing its data. This dependency has caused embarrassment to the company several times, thus they were forced to move on to their own database for storing their data. Amazon has also introduced certain changes in its services to make them more user-friendly and attract more users.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure VS Amazon Web Services – Which is better?

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is found to be at an edge when it comes to lower costs and easier cloud migration for data and applications. You will find OCI more convenient and user-friendly as compared to AWS because it offers cloud services in the public cloud. You can also migrate and run any workload using the Oracle database and its applications. Security and authentication controls are more reliable and preferred by most people across the world.

Conclusion

Amazon has now moved away from Oracle databases and is now self-dependent for storing and managing its data. The new changes made in some of their services have also benefitted the company. This shift had become necessary after it was constantly mocked by the CTO of Oracle for using their databases.
