Does Homegoods have Wheelchairs?

In today’s world of disability acceptance, access to necessary equipment for disabled body types is very important in all walks of life. Even able-bodied people may require to use such facilities in times of need or emergency. Accidents often lead to temporary disability so one may require access to disability aid tools despite it not being permanent. The elderly have a hard time walking for hours, and sometimes shopping does take quite a lot of time. So providing our elders or the injured with the option to access wheelchairs while they shop, is quite the noble act. Let’s discuss ‘Does Homegoods have Wheelchairs?’.

Does Homegoods have Wheelchairs?

Does Homegoods have Wheelchairs?

No, they do not. They do not have wheelchairs available for the disabled or temporarily disabled shoppers to access while shopping at the store. Nor do they keep wheelchairs in their stock, if someone wished to purchase one to aide them in their daily ventures.

Not only do they not provide wheelchairs to their customers, their parent companies’ other offspring store chains do not have the facility available either, which seems quite problematic, especially in the 2020s.

Homegoods

Founded in the year 1992, Homegoods is a United States-based furniture company, headquartered at Framingham, Massachusetts, United States. Homegoods’ parent company is TJX Companies and AJWright, and it current President is John Ricciuti. Not only does Homegood sell furniture but also other products to turn your house into a home. Products like cooking supplies, linens, home decorations, jars, vases, art supplies, etc.

Types of Wheelchairs

There are many different types of Wheelchairs depending upon your requirements. Some of them are listed down below:-

  • Collapsible and Non-Collapsible– depending on whether you want a portable wheelchair or not.
  • Wheelchair that provides body support (depending upon your injury or comfort needs)- you can purchase one with footrests or back support or sturdy armrests or reclining seats, etc.
  • Bariatric Wheelchairs– this is for people who are heavyset and require a wheelchair that can support their weight properly.
  • Mechanical Wheelchairs– this comes with the benefit of being fully independent without having to develop the upper body strength to roll yourself about. This is recommended for heavily paralyzed patients as well.
  • With additional accessories– everyone likes to have a cup holder or an additional compartment to store their items of daily use.

The fact that the store chain has not a single type of Wheelchair available, despite there being so many types to choose from and so many types that the public need from time to time, is quite shameful.

Wheelchair Price Point

The cost of the wheelchairs ranges from somewhere between $100 to $1500. With ‘Drive Medical Silver Sport 1 Wheelchair with Full Arms and Swing away Removable Footrest 18 inch’ being the cheapest option costing $109.29, which is available at Walgreens’ stores and website. The price point of any particular wheelchair is determined by various factors like its size, comfort, ease of access, remote functions (if any), etc. In case of a dire need for medical purposes, this cost may be partially or completely covered by your Health Insurance plan, depending upon your insurance company.

So, Homegoods not having Wheelchairs available is quite surprising when you consider these facts.

What should Homegoods do?

Homegoods prides itself at providing it’s customers with a life filled with comfort and quality. Disability acceptance is a part of life. If they can sell chairs, they should not hesitate in selling wheelchairs either. And not only should they be keeping wheelchairs in their stock for purchase, they should have a few Wheelchairs on standby at their stores for the common people to use while they shop at their sites. Elderly people, people possessing injuries, etc. may not be inclined to walk for hours while shopping at Homegoods. So it is in their own self interest to provide their customers with the best service that they can possibly give.

However, the problem may originate from a higher above than just the Homegoods store chain. As mentioned earlier, Homegoods’ sibling companies do not offer wheelchairs either. So the parent company may truly be the one at fault here.

Conclusion

It is completely unacceptable for a large store chain like Homegoods to not be inclusive of people of all ages and from all walks of life. And not only is Homegoods responsible for this incompetence but also their parent company. The parent companies TJX Companies and AJWright need to wake up and take responsibility and open their eyes to the fact that America is made up of a variety of different people and a vast majority of them may need walking aid while doing something as simple as shopping for their homes.

Homegoods should definitely strive to do better and hopefully, someday they will open their eyes, realize their faults, and make the necessary changes to accommodate everyone under their umbrella of comfort.
