Verizon routers are common in homes and small offices around the country, and this model isn’t the only one to sport a red light on the front. While the color of this light can change, it usually indicates that there’s a problem with your router. There could be an issue with your internet connection, or there could be something wrong with your router itself. What does the green internet light on my Verizon router mean?
The Verizon router internet light is solid green when it is connected to your wireless device. It flashes green during a power outage or to indicate a wireless security error.
- If there is no solid, consistent light on your Verizon modem, you can use an Ethernet cable to check if you have internet connection.
- Solid amber indicates that there are network problems, including DSL service or cable issues.. Meanwhile, flashing amber indicates there is activity on your network but that might not be related to your computer.

I keep seeing a lot of people comment on posts asking what is up with my Verizon router when it’s green or how to fix a yellow or red light. The original poster has called Verizon but they can’t tell them why their internet isn’t working so they post here hoping someone from Verizon will read and respond.
Hopefully, I can help some of you by pointing out where to go in your settings to get more information about your connection. Some of you may have been taught that any red lights are bad, stop and figure out what’s wrong before continuing on your path to whatever goal you are trying to achieve. Like any tool, there are times when a little check-up might be necessary and that’s ok. For example, if your car just started sputtering while driving down a major highway, by all means pull over and take care of business.
However, if you’re making time through town with no red flags popping up on your dashboard and then BAM! Outta nowhere everything shuts off while you’re still humming along just fine then chances are it will start right back up once everything settles down. But wait…before you go full throttle into highway traffic again did ya maybe forget to put gas in?

So here we go, One of three things happened:
- Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) was doing maintenance on their end or
- You or someone at home unplugged something by accident
- You disconnected via Wi-Fi There should be nothing weird going on with your wireless side because all wireless routers are configured to auto-sense which devices need service vs which ones don’t – unless you configured something manually yourself – like switching off power saving mode which is something we do to make sure our devices stay connected even though they’ve gone into sleep mode.
How to reset a Verizon Fios Router?
For a typical home, resetting your Fios Router should be one of your last resort. Resetting erases any changes you’ve made to settings so that you can restore factory default settings.
- Before you proceed, try rebooting first. A reboot clears out temporary files without changing all of your settings back to their defaults.
- Note that when you restart your device, everything comes back online immediately; if you’re trying to troubleshoot an issue where certain services aren’t working, unplugging everything for 30 seconds or so can give these services time to come back online before you start using them again.
- If a simple reboot doesn’t fix things, though, don’t worry — there are two more steps involved in resetting your device.

We’ll walk through each step below. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t expect problems with your Verizon equipment to be fixed by doing these steps — but sometimes having clear network connections is just as good as solving specific issues.
The process we recommend starts at step 1, goes to 4, and then finishes up at 5:
- Step 1: Disconnect power First make sure nothing is plugged into your Verizon hardware via Ethernet cable. Then check that nothing is plugged into your modem’s power port; you may have accidentally left something connected here during the initial setup (this seems like common sense, but trust us). Once you confirm that nothing’s plugged in, disconnect power from your modem by turning off its switch or pulling out its plug while keeping track of which cable goes where if they’re not labeled. Wait 15 seconds to allow anything stored in memory to discharge before you proceed. (You’ll use electricity again later.)
- Step 2: Power cycle Now plug your modem back in. Wait 10 seconds and then turn it off once more by flipping its switch or removing its cord. You needn’t wait long here, only long enough for anything still storing info to complete writing itself over with fresh information. Since your modem is no longer receiving power during these next few steps, keep whatever you did earlier handy in case you forget where you put it after step 3.
- Step 3: Leave unplugged Plug your modem back in now and leave it alone for 60 seconds. Don’t touch anything, just sit quietly and watch a funny video on YouTube if necessary to keep yourself occupied. After 60 seconds go ahead and move on to step 4.
- Step 4: Reconnect power Power cycle your Verizon equipment now, checking that no cables have been left behind like we mentioned above earlier. Do your best to take a minute and double-check that you haven’t left anything behind. It’s quite easy to do, especially when you’re in a hurry and running behind schedule. Only once you’ve triple-checked that everything is hooked up as it should be should you flip your equipment back on. When all else fails, it never hurts to get someone else to look at things too.
- Step 5: Start fresh If your computer can connect wirelessly, boot into Windows and download our free diagnostic tool. Run System Diagnostics to ensure that your PC has access to all available IPs and other network settings. Completely power down your modem, router, and computer. Then follow all instructions for connecting your equipment together. When you’re done, let everything power back on by itself and see if that solved it.
Be patient—it could take a little while for everything to finish booting up. Once everything is on, run System Diagnostics again to confirm that all IPs are functional.
How To Fix A Dead Or Offline Router And Get Internet Service Back Up And Running?
The first thing you want to do is reboot your modem. This won’t solve all your problems, but it’s usually a good place to start.
- Turn off your modem by unplugging it from its power source.
- Wait two minutes and plug it back in again. A full minute later, try connecting to your internet service provider.
- If that doesn’t work, or if you simply have an offline or dead router, here are some more things to check out.
- Take note of any error messages on your screen.
Often these will tell you exactly why there is a problem with your internet connection (for example, hardware not found or no ISP mean that something happened when attempting to connect). If nothing shows up on-screen then turn off your computer and make sure that both wirelessly connected computers are plugged into different outlets than those being used by their routers. Change their wireless channel if possible (especially for older models) because both devices may be struggling over channel interference.
Still no luck?
- Unplug your wireless router and wait a couple of minutes before reattaching it. Next, reboot all computers.
- You can also try resetting your computer’s network card settings by going to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > [Network Connection Name] Properties > Hardware tab > Properties > Advanced button -> Settings button -> Renew DHCP Lease option .
