DoorDash Refund Policy – Know More

DoorDash is a food delivery service located in the U.S, Canada, and Australia. users can download the app and order meals from different restaurants across the states.  DoorDash does not have a refund policy in place, users of the application pay for their delivery and regardless of their level of satisfaction with the food they ordered or the service of delivery, they are unable to request a refund.

If users have issues with the service, they can complain through various methods which will be described in detail in the article. Although DoorDash does not have a refund policy it makes exceptions to the rule in extreme cases. 

What is DoorDash’s refund policy?

DoorDash modified its policy in 2021 and on its website you can access DoorDash’s terms and conditions agreement document if you scroll to point 11, b. Their policy clearly states the following;

“No Refunds. Charges paid by you for completed and delivered orders are final and non-refundable. DoorDash has no obligation to provide refunds or credits, but may grant them, in each case in DoorDash’s sole discretion.”

To simplify the above extract, DoorDash will review each refund request individually and decide on whether or not to provide a refund. It is up to them to determine this but for the most part, they do not provide refunds for completed deliveries. 

What can you get DoorDash refund on?

  1. Food orders:

Customers often attempt to get refunds on normal food orders but according to DoorDash’s terms of service, once a customer has paid for their delivery that money is non-refundable. The only exception to this rule is for extreme situations, each case is evaluated differently.

Here are some exceptions to consider:

  • If you cancel your order before it arrives at your location, then you may be eligible for half a refund but if you manage to cancel your order earlier then you can receive a full income, it just depends on timing. DoorDash is liable to pay for the delivery driver’s trip and or the restaurant you ordered food from.  
  • Sometimes there are situations where the delivery takes longer than expected because of delays in meal preparation at the restaurant, traffic causing delivery delays, or other circumstances. DoorDash does not have the power to cancel the order but they can negotiate with customers through customer support and provide a refund to customers in exchange for canceling their orders.
  1. DoorDash Subscription refund policy:

DoorDash has a monthly subscription fee that customers can pay for to have the benefit of free delivery on any order over $15. This is known as DoorPass and costs $9.99 a month.

If you manage to cancel this subscription within the first 48hrs of subscribing you are eligible for a full refund of the price of the subscription. If you cancel within 30 days, you can get a full refund on your yearly subscription charge.

What are the common reasons for asking DoorDash refund? 

  1. Your food order is missing:

If you receive an order and notice that an order item is missing, you can do the following;

Step 1

Open your DoorDash app and click on the view tab and select the item or items that are missing.

Step 2

Select the Help button at the top corner of the page and search for the “Order Issues” option and click on it. 

Step 3

Under the “Order Issues” tab you can select the “Missing Items” and select the items you have ordered that were missing from the delivery. 

Step 4

This is optional, after you have submitted your missing orders, you can navigate yourself to the “Details” sections and add any further information you wish to include then click submit. 

The majority of the time you will receive a fractional refund for this issue except for standout cases. 

  1. Incorrect address:

If you do not receive your order because it was delivered to the wrong address you can open the application and report this issue by doing the following;

Select the “Orders” tab on the application.

Step 2

Select the “Help” option on the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Step 3

Search for the “Delivery options” section and you will see the option to report “Delivery never arrived” at your location. 

Step 4

You can then submit a report you have two optional refunds to select from:

  • A DoorDash credit for the next order you purchase.
  • A financial refund. 

Alternatively, you can contact a customer support agent through the DoorDash app and determine where your order was delivered to. 

  1. Very long wait-time:

There are many reasons why delivery may be late. In the events you would like to request a refund for the long wait time. You can follow a similar process to the above scenario but locate “Delivery Issues” under the help option and choose “Arrived late” then follow the directions that appear.
