Uber is a transportation company that facilitates ridesharing services, taxi, and food delivery services. Uber includes an array of services, each with its own set of vehicle criteria. Uber Vehicle Requirements

The following elements are required by Uber’s general criteria for vehicles – Working AC and windows, 4-doors, fit a minimum of 4 passengers, no salvaged or rebuilt title, no cosmetic damage, no taxi paint job, or commercial branding, and no rental status except through Uber-approved rental companies. The car must be under 15 years old and have no missing parts. Uber provides a variety of services, but the main rules apply to all of them.

Uber’s Vehicle Requirements in General

The following conditions must be met by all cars intended for use as an Uber ride:

  • Must have four doors and have at least five factory-installed seats to be able to carry at least four customers.
  • The car is to be no more than 15 years old.
  • The title should not be restored, rebuilt, or salvaged.
  • Rental automobiles are prohibited unless they are from an Uber-authorized rental firm.
  • No aesthetic damage, missing parts, commercial branding, or taxi paint jobs are permitted.
  • Be able to pass Uber’s car assessment.

Along with the standard vehicle criteria, each of Uber’s unique ridesharing services has its own set of requirements.

Uber services are divided into many categories, each of which is based on a certain vehicle type.  Uber’s services are designed to optimize the potential of a particular vehicle type, providing unique programs to users. As a result, each of Uber’s programs has different particular requirements. 

Uber X

Uber X is the company’s baseline economic service, with the fewest criteria of any Uber program.

  • The Uber X service requires a 4-door sedan or hatchback. 
  • The vehicle is to be no more than 15 years old in most cities.

Nissan Altima, Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Chevrolet Malibu, Mazda3, and the Toyota Camry are all popular UberX cars that fit Uber’s standards perfectly.

UberXL

UberXL provides much larger rides to provide seating for 6 passengers comfortably. Customers who have more luggage than can fit in an UberX vehicle typically ask for this service.

  • An UberXL driver must have a motor that seats six or more
  • Must be a luxury vehicle of high class that’s 15 years old or newer. 
  • The UberXL motor should come with 7 factory-installed seats.
  • Vehicles like box trucks and vans are not allowed in Los Angeles but may be allowed in different states. 
  • Any interior seat changes, modified seat belts, and seats, or BedRyder systems, are prohibited.

The Audi Q7, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, Honda Pilot, Mitsubishi Outlander, and the Volvo XC90 are all UberXL-passing cars.

Uber Black

  • The Uber Black service requires a car make and model that’s no more than 7 years old. 
  • Uber states that cars for their Uber Black service have to have a black exterior along with a leather or vegan leather interior.
  • Uber Black should be able to comfortably seat 4 passengers along with a seat for the driver.
  • The vehicle’s black exterior should be free of stains and aesthetic imperfections.

Mercedes-Benz E-class, BMW 5-series, Genesis G90, and the Audi A8 are vehicles that are a perfect fit for Uber Black because all of these luxurious cars are available in black variants by their manufacturers. 

Uber Black SUV

Uber’s Black SUV program is designed to suit all of Uber Black’s customers that desire an even bigger car. Customers who want to travel in style with more of their friends or family members love Uber’s Black SUV program. 

  • In addition to the driver, there should be enough room for at least 6 passengers.
  • The motor is to be classified as a four-door SUV.
  • The SUV should be luxurious and free of all minor and major aesthetic damage.
  • The SUV should have a black exterior with leather or vegan leather interior.

Volvo XC90, Chevrolet Tahoe, Cadillac Escalade, and Lincoln Navigator are popularly driven as Uber Black SUVs that are luxurious and are offered in all-black by the manufacturer.

Uber Comfort

Uber Comfort is Uber’s program that brings customers maximum ride comfort, allowing them temperature controls and extended pickup time limits. 

  • Uber Comfort requires the motor to be already eligible for Uber Black, UberXL, or other Uber programs
  • Uber Comfort requires the car to provide more legroom than the usual UberX cars.
  • The car model should not be older than 5 years.

The Nissan Pathfinder, Range Rover, Toyota Camry, Honda Pilot, and Chevrolet Impala are vehicles popularly used for Uber’s Comfort program.

Uber WAV

Uber WAV refers to Wheelchair-Accessible Vehicles that Uber has started providing to be more welcoming to passengers who use wheelchairs or motorized scooters.

  • Passengers in wheelchairs should be able to be safely supported in the vehicle.
  • There should be enough room in the car to comfortably load and store the passenger’s wheelchair or scooter.
  • You must have lifts or ramps installed in your car.

All Uber WAV vehicles are eligible for UberX use, but not all UberX vehicles qualify for the Uber WAV program.

The Kia Soul, Honda Odyssey, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Ford Transit vehicles are spacious vehicles that can be modified and equipped for mobility.

Uber Green

Uber Green vehicles are low-emission vehicles that are easy on the environment.

  • The motor needs to be electric or hybrid in addition to satisfying Uber’s universal requirements.

The Toyota Prius, Chevrolet Bolt, Honda Accord (Hybrid), and all Tesla vehicles qualify as Uber Green vehicles.
