Stores Like Victoria’s Secret

If you think of a lingerie or underwear brand, most people might think of Victoria’s Secret. There were playful prints, fun stores, and models who stood out. Each year, however, a multitude of reasons have caused me to become less attracted to the brand. Aside from the quality of their products declining, they discontinued everyday items to focus exclusively on sexy products. Generally, the favorite kind of thong is a lacy one, but we also like to wear normal underwear each so often (we don’t need to be super Sexy while sleeping) and everything they had was frilly, garish, and made from synthetic materials.

As we continued to look at each of their models, we get realized that they were terrible at showing diversity and that about 40 percent of them were identical blonde clones. Furthermore, it never seemed like the brand made any attempt to sell underwear differently than it had done previously. Stores Like Victoria’s Secret continues to market to women like it’s 1999, Business of Fashion reported.

Stores Like Victorias Secret

Those seeking a change can check out these shops like Victoria’s Secret for products that are just as sexy, diverse, and fun as Victoria’s Secret products.

Whether you are shopping on a budget or want to splurge on quality items, these brands cover every price range.

Victoria’s Secret is not for us anymore

Here are five reasons why.

1. There is a transphobic mentality there

Victoria’s Secret Chief Marketing Officer Ed Razek was interviewed by Vogue last week, and it didn’t bode well for the brand. Razek said that they had avoided hiring transgender models for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since transgenders did not align with Victoria’s Secret’s overall “fantasy”. While it is fine for a business to cast who they want, why promote your business as one that is inherently uninclusive when inclusivity is both beneficial for the industry and good for marketing? In addition, if you have the power as a brand to make nonbinary gender roles more mainstream, why would you choose to oppose that?

2. Their labor record is poor

Prison labor was infamously used by the brand to sew its wares in South Carolina during the 1990s. Just a few years ago, they still faced allegations of using child labor despite abandoning the practice. They also have subpar labor practices, according to a recent report.

3. Sexy Through the Male Gaze

Victoria’s Secret has always defined sexiness as a man’s validation. They used to do their old, ostentatious Michael Bay commercials where models would beg for their love or attention as if no greater pleasure in life could be found than the chance to be desired by another person. Victoria’s Secret still emphasizes that you are beautiful if others tell you so, even though sexiness today is more about feeling confident about your body. It was still all about lying in bed waiting for someone to recognize your seductiveness in their latest 2018 commercial.

4. Body diversity is lacking

Besides his transphobic quotes, Razek also noted that their brand does not employ plus-sized models. It seems as though almost all of Victoria’s Secret’s models have the same body type – thin and athletic. Models exercise an agonizing amount, and there is a rumor that most don’t eat or drink anything before the show. It seems a bit out-of-date to have to suffer to look good. Rather than “you don’t look good enough” two decades ago, it is now “you look great just the way you are.” Victoria’s Secret did not catch the memo.

5. Nothing has changed about the look

This isn’t the first time people have commented on Victoria’s Secret’s narrow conception of beauty. There’s a lot of white, and it’s very thin. According to NYMag, the hairstyle has remained the same for decades. It may be the absence of diversity, fashion-forwardness, or inclusivity is a result of the design made to feel unworthy and like you can only be sexy if you wear Victoria’s Secret.

ALTERNATIVES TO STORES LIKE VICTORIA’S SECRET

1. Savage X Fenty

Our list would not be complete without the lingerie line by the queen herself. In adding fresh prints and colors to her brand, Rihanna has created a collection that looks unlike any other.

2. Bluebella

Bluebella makes sexy lingerie in a rainbow of colors, including periwinkle, periwinkle red, and yellow. The brand is perfect for those who enjoy lace. Its intricate patterns and revealing cutouts make its pieces look like works of art. This is especially evident in the black Irena Bra.

3. Thirdlove

In contrast to VS, this brand is all about inclusivity and is funded by a former executive at VS. The colors are muted, and comfort is paramount. We just can’t get enough of their lace contour bra, perfect everyday T-shirt bra, and sexy balconette bra.

4. Nubian Skin

It used to be common for nude to mean beige (take a bow, Victoria’s Secret), so this brand expanded its color palette into tailoring darker tones- caramel and brown shades. Below is their beautiful T-shirt bra that is comfortable to wear every day regardless of your skin tone. Among what they offer are bralettes, thongs, g-strings, and more that won’t break the bank. They even have menswear.

5. Understatement Underwear

Swedish women founded this brand because comfort is the key. No painful underwire, no weird padding, no irritating materials; instead, everything is designed to be comfortable while looking great.

8. Adore Me

It can be a bit intimidating to join a brand that runs on a membership program but Adore Me offers exceptional introductory deals (they often offer your first set for $24.95). This New York-based brand is known for its wide variety of products ranging from lingerie to sleepwear to swimwear to activewear. Because Adore Me lingerie is designed by a variety of designers, every piece has a unique feel and appeal.

Although the products don’t compromise on quality, one disadvantage of the brand is that they are really expensive. Maybe you should check out their collection on your own and choose what suits your needs!

12. Gap Body

The GapBody underwear website is the best place to shop for lingerie if you want to shop similarly to Victoria’s Secret but aren’t willing to blow your entire savings account. We like GapBody lingerie because it is comfortable, beautiful, and affordable at the same time.

Isn’t it great to have our closets beautifully organized in the most beautiful lingerie? Nevertheless, these are garments you need to change every day, all week long! The opportunity to get everything from your favorite section may not always be available to you when visiting a VS store.
