What is Amazon?

Amazon.com, Inc. is an American multinational company that focuses on e-commerce, cloud computing, and retail b businesses. It is one of the most valued companies worldwide, with a net worth of 1.10 trillion dollars in 2022. Let us know more detail about ‘Amazon Return Limit’.

Amazon Return Limit

Amazon return policy:

Since Amazon is a global selling platform, there are bound to be unhappy and dissatisfied customers who want to return their products due to several reasons. Therefore Amazon has a 10-day return policy which states that any product, shipped from Amazon.com or Amazon warehouses can be returned within 10 days, in most cases. There are some exceptions to this policy, one being clothes, which have a 30-day return policy and will be checked for damages before a return or refund is issued. Another exception is perishable items like food/beverages that are ordered via ‘Amazon fresh.’

Amazon return limit:

There are 40,000 transactions on Amazon each minute. Many of those buyers are just people looking to buy products for personal use or gifting. But there are some scammers as well who buy products, use them on a trial basis, and then return those articles on some pretense or other. This causes the sellers who are selling the product, to incur losses as they have to refund or return new goods for damaged ones. To avoid people like these, and to help the sellers who face these issues, Amazon has a return limit. Now the exact limit is unknown as Amazon hasn’t disclosed any specific number, but there have been accounts from people whose returns were exceeding 10% of their total purchases and their accounts were getting banned.  For example, if a person bought 100 things on Amazon, and then returned 11 of them, they would either get a ban or a warning from Amazon saying they had returned too many articles and should choose their products carefully further on. Thus it is generally accepted that the return limit is 10% of the total purchases. However, this return policy has had a negative effect too, as shoppers who buy products daily can encounter damaged products regularly. They genuinely need to return products but instead, they face warning after warning or get their accounts banned due to the limit. This is because sometimes the sellers are crafty and fraudsters too, and they sell damaged/used goods to customers intentionally to earn money through their losses.

What can/cannot be returned?

Since we now know about the policy and return limit, let us delve deeper into what products can and cannot be returned. Firstly perishable items like food/beverages, cannot be returned once received as they are quick to deteriorate unless refrigerated or consumed. Next, packages that have the label ‘non-returnable’ on the product detail page cannot be returned. These are unspecified items and are labeled according to Amazon’s discretion. Medicines also come under ‘non-returnable’ products as they have similar problems that are shared by food and beverages. Now onto the returnable items. All electronic gadgets, books, clothes, accessories, hardware gadgets, and anything that doesn’t need to be consumed either physically or digitally like Movies, video games, etc. are included in returnable products. They are subject to the 7-day or 10-day return policy depending on the nature of the product. One exception to this is clothes, which have a 30-day return period from the day the package is received by the customer.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the Amazon return policy is a flawed method as there are loopholes in it that can entangle innocent customers and pave the way for fraudulent sellers. To perfect this Amazon should come up with a new and better way to identify innocent customers from scammers and this way protects both the genuine sellers as well as buyers. If not this, then Amazon should at least reveal the actual limit of returns after which one’s account can get banned or create a return limit renewal period. This way the regular customers who are close to the limit can wait until the limit renews and then continues their purchases.
